3D Printing ../index.html Just another 3D Printing WordPress site Thu, 26 Nov 2020 08:01:38 +0000 en hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.7.1 Extension ../build/extension/index.html Wed, 25 Nov 2020 15:39:06 +0000 ../index.html?p=65

A lot has happened since my last post. I was not very happy with the way my Kossel performed and I decided to rebuild it. While I was at it, I thought I might as well upgrade the printer to a Kossel XL. This is the result:

Kossel XL

I added one safety measurement, I added two MOSFETs to avoid high current running through the Arduino.

Printing is nice, building a printer much nicer 🙂

So, I ordered an Anet A8 in China and built it in just over 1 day.

All the orange parts are upgrades as mentioned all over the internet.

Modifications to the Kossel mini ../build/modifications-to-the-kossel-mini/index.html ../build/modifications-to-the-kossel-mini/index.html#respond Tue, 12 Apr 2016 14:03:02 +0000 http://kepasa.nl/3D/?p=45 This is the printer after the initial build. Notice how the filament is just stored on top of the printer. I had to turn the spool manually, closely watching the whole print process. Also, electronics are just “lying” around.

Initial build

First step was to print filament spool holders. I found this on thingiverse. (where almost all of my modifications originate from) This is the original: www.thingiverse.com/thing:318212

Next step: get rid of the noise! Not only a lot of noise but also a lot of vibration on the table driving my family nuts 🙂 This upgrade comes from the site where I bought the 3D Printer kit. I bought the bearings via ebay.

Following step is to get rid of “lying around” electronics.  Smart LCD mount

And the Arduino MEGA & RAMPS 1.4 mount. (two pieces, also found on thingiverse)

Last addition is two LED holders. (Again, found on thingiverse)

(BTW: the LED lights came from Hong Kong at no shipping costs. Really amazing)

Resulting in the current setup:

Next steps would be a solution for the power adapter and extending some wires to be able to tidy them. Besides that I am working on a wooden box for transportation purposes.

Penguin with Hawaii flower garland
Penguin with Hawaii flower garland

At the office a colleague (being also an artist) created a penguin.

With the app 123D Catch I turned the penguin into a 3D model.

This is the model:

En this is the result:

Penguin
3cm high Penguin

One of the first objects I printed and although the nice detail, I learned that with very smal objects, the software has has trouble with preparing the object to print.

Recently I recreated another model of the penguin. (without the flower garland)

And the printed result:

Penguin 5cm high

Well, not really from scratch, some electronic parts were already soldered 🙂
